2020 Partner Report

ABOCFA
Ghana

Taza Direct Trade Metrics 2020 - ABOCFA, Ghana

In Suhum, Ghana the pandemic-related lockdown eliminated ABOCFA’s meetings and training activities, and the usually large annual general meeting of farmers was held at the community level. There were several supply chain disruptions preventing product from getting to port, but during this time the ABOCFA Cooperative did lots of community-level trainings and even constructed a library for one of the area’s schools!

Due to the economic pressures the pandemic created for small chocolate manufacturers, demand for ABOCFA’s premium, USDA organic-certified cacao declined while overall demand for conventional commodity cacao remained consistent with the previous year. I am hopeful that in 2021 Taza can help change that as we continue to grow our purchases of organic cacao and create the kind of impact we strive for. I am looking forward to visiting Suhum in-person in 2021!

Visiting ABOCFA

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, our most recent in-person visit to ABOCFA was in 2019.

*Price based on FOB terms and equal to the negotiated fixed price or to the negotiated premium plus the world market price on the day the contract is closed

**Price the individual farmer receives for their cacao prior to its further processing, packing and export. Taza's 2016 Transparency Report, "Let's Talk Price" provides an in-depth exploration of the topic
