Chocolate Maker


At Taza Chocolate we make stone ground, organic chocolate. We want our cacao’s complex flavors to shout loud and proud. That is why we stone grind cacao beans into minimally processed chocolate with bold flavor and texture, unlike anything you have ever tasted. 


Taza is organized into three major functions at its Somerville operation: Production, Sales & Marketing, and Operations. The Chocolate Maker performs an important role on the Production team. This position will be involved with all aspects of the day-to-day factory operations. The job will include, but not be limited to roasting cacao beans, grinding and refining chocolate, depositing chocolate into molds, handling cooling chocolate, washing molds, and wrapping chocolate products as needed. 


  • Roasting cacao beans and nuts
  • Grinding and refining chocolate
  • Depositing chocolate into molds
  • Handling cooling chocolate
  • Panning, canning, and bagging product
  • Wrapping and packaging chocolate products
  • General factory cleaning
  • Washing chocolate molds and small equipment
  • Comply with Taza’s Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Additional ad hoc duties as required


Above all, a Chocolate Maker must be diligent in his/her duties. He/she should have strong verbal communication skills, attention to detail, ability to follow directions, and be able to perform detailed handwork quickly, accurately, and consistently. This position requires frequently lifting up to 50lbs, standing on your feet for up to 8 hours per day, working in rooms of varying temperature, as well as performing repetitive tasks.


Hours for this position are determined by the Taza production schedule, and defined by the Director of Manufacturing, Plant Manager, and Shift Supervisor, and will reflect the needs of the Production Team. The employee is expected to work 40 hours per week.  A strong attendance record is crucial to the success of this position.


Each employee at Taza is subject to an annual and 6-month performance review.  These reviews address the points found in the Duties & Responsibilities section above and allow the Company and the Employee to evaluate their success in fulfilling them. Results from performance reviews are used to make improvements inside the company, educate and empower the employee, provide benchmarks for individual growth, and provide factual basis for increases in compensation. Compensation is reviewed on an annual basis.
