Just a few miles along the Mystic River from our Somerville, MA chocolate factory is the city of Chelsea. This vibrant community is home to neighbors, friends, and team members, and it is currently in crisis, experiencing the highest per capita rate of COVID-19 infections in Massachusetts. To help support our Chelsea neighbors, Taza will be donating 15% of all website sales through May 19 to The One Chelsea Fund.
This fund will help families and individuals who are severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fund was established by Chelsea community leaders, together with City Manager Tom Ambrosino, in partnership with The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. If you would like to donate additional funds beyond the 15% of your Taza purchase, please use the link at the bottom of this page. Thank you for generosity!

THE NEED IN CHELSEA
Chelsea is home to some of the most vulnerable groups in the Boston region: newly-arrived immigrants, undocumented families, non-English speakers, and low-income workers and families with children. As a frontline community, Chelsea residents already experienced the greater public health challenges associated with environmental contamination. Therefore, the economic, social, and health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic were immediate and dire for the many Chelsea individuals and families who live one paycheck away from serious financial hardship. COVID-19 has magnified the challenges our community has long been struggling with: unstable and unaffordable housing, food insecurity, low wages, lack of English proficiency, and high rates of uninsured.
Our community is in crisis.
Hundreds of Chelsea workers are unexpectedly without wages, and families are making painful choices between rent, food, medicine, and academic support for at-home learners.
The Chelsea community has come together swiftly and decisively to address needs as they arise. Food is being distributed at multiple locations across the City. The Chelsea Public Schools are distributing ChromeBooks for remote learning. Neighborhood Captains are checking in with neighbors, matching them with resources, and providing multilingual educational materials to help our community navigate this challenging time.
Yet, the needs in our community far outweigh these efforts. Individuals and families need immediate financial support.
THE ONE CHELSEA FUND
The One Chelsea Fund will provide financial relief to Chelsea individuals and families to meet their basic needs. The City and community leaders from The Chelsea Collaborative, GreenRoots, and The Neighborhood Developers will quickly and equitably distribute financial resources to our neighbors in crisis in the form of $250 checks.
