Good Year For:

Introducing Friends

Friends from chocolate maker Ethereal Confections and cacao broker Uncommon Cacao joined Taza in March traveling to Ghana to meet ABOCFA farmers.

Growing Membership

ABOCFA expanded from 695 to 924 farmers and produced 864 metric tons of organic cacao, a record volume for the organization!

Gaining Recognition

In the US and Europe, reporters wrote about ABOCFA's outstanding efforts to promote the health and well-being of cacao growing communities.

Tough Year For:

Logistics

In Ghana, different actors are responsible for different parts of the supply chain; this year, the government agency responsible for export accidentally shipped Taza's cacao beans to the wrong chocolate maker!

Quality Control

A few farmers turned in small or damaged cacao beans which had to be sieved out before export (on the bright side, the sorted cacao was in great condition when it reached the chocolate makers).

*Price based on FOB terms and equal to the negotiated fixed price or to the negotiated premium plus the world market price on the day the contract is closed

**Price the individual farmer receives for their cacao prior to its further processing, packing and export. Taza's 2016 Transparency Report, "Let's Talk Price" provides an in-depth exploration of the topic
